They are crucial for creating 3D models, layout plans, and material specifications, often working in specialized roles such as layout, stress analysis, or material selection.
Key Requirements
Key Skills & Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is typically required.
- Software Knowledge: Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, PDMS, SP3D, and Caesar II.
- Codes & Standards: Strong knowledge of ASME (B31.3, B31.1), API, and ASTM standards, according to The Piping Engineering World.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Design & Layout: Creating 3D models, piping layouts, and Isometrics/GA drawings using software like Plant3D.
- Material Selection: Defining pipe specifications, components, and creating Bills of Materials (MTO).
- Stress Analysis: Performing stress analysis to ensure structural integrity.
- Construction Support: Supporting field engineers with erection, fabrication, and hydro testing, per insights on The Piping Engineering World.
- Coordination: Ensuring layout compliance with other departments (mechanical, structural).
